At the end of the day, the selection process helped us learn not just about philanthropy in the Unites States and Alaska, the intricacies of grant writing and decision making, we learned a lot about ourselves, our culture, our values, and we learned a lot about our community...As President Kennedy once said, "one man can make a difference, but everybody must try."

PLANTING A SEED: BEFORE LBG SUPPORT

A 2014 CCEL pilot project with 6 students takes root.
Our Fall 2016 LBG Adventure!
- $2,000 Women’s Giving Circle grant, a private charitable fund with The Alaska Community Foundation.
- Evaluated 4 local nonprofit proposals written by Summer 2014 ENGL 212 students.
- Awarded $1,000 each to Alaska Literacy Program and the Refugee Assistance and Immigration Services program (RAIS) with Catholic Social Services.
- Learning about history and practice of philanthropy
- Overview of the non-profit sector
- Current issues and trends across the state and municipality
- Review and critique local grant proposals,
then award grant funds
