did you ever doubt yourself when writing a book and maybe you thought that you would never make it as an author?
"Yes! Even now, when you start a new book, you often feel like you’ll never be able to get it right. The idea you have in your head is so much better than what you put on the page. If you are a writer, you’re often a reader as well, and you can often feel that your own writing will never be as good as all the other wonderful books you’ve read in the past. But if you are serious about writing, you have to be determined and keep working and keep trying to get better and better."
Phillipa Werry is a kiwi author of many good books that have one various awards throughout her years of writing.
Phillipa Werry says "if you have a way with words and enjoy writing then follow your dreams and don't give up just because you don't become popular straight away".
She has one over 10 awards from 2004 to 2015 and that is worldwide not just in New Zealand. Which is impressive.
When you were a young child did you think you were going to portray your career as a writer.
and when you were a young child did you want to be a writer if not what did you want to be when you grew up?
"(I’m answering these questions together!) Yes, I always wanted to be a writer, right from when I was younger than you! I feel very lucky that my childhood dream came true and I still think it’s the best job in the world."
if you weren't a writer what would you be doing as a career?
How many books have you written?
"I used to be a librarian and if I hadn’t taken the plunge to be a full-time writer, that’s probably what I would still be doing."
"I never know how to answer that because I’ve written lots of different sorts of books. If you count them all (like all the ones for schools), there would be a lot. But there are 5 novels (one more coming out soon), 4 non-fiction books (one more coming out soon) and a whole lot of other stuff."
She has written over 40 books and over half of them have one awards throughout her writing life.
Was your family supportive of your career at the start?
what is your favorite book that you have ever written (if you can choose one)?
"Yes! When I was little, my mum used to post off the stories I wrote for the newspaper, and she kept all those newspaper stories for me so I still have them now."
"I like all my books for different reasons, but right now my favourite one is the novel I’m writing at the moment - it’s coming out early next year and I hope you’ll like it!"
