"For me, ICI is the most exciting institutional development since I came to The New School in 2002. Not only is ICI bringing new people, new knowledge, and new projects together, but it is really forging a path previously not taken by other institutes or universities: that is, the study of India-China-U.S. relations as an integrated whole rather than separate, insular domains of activity and research."

L.H.M. Ling, ICI Fellow and Associate Dean of the

Graduate Program in International Affairs

at The New School

We welcome new Academic Directors

Mark Frazier

Sanjay Reddy

Working together with our partner institutions and active support and leadership at The New School we are poised to meet this challenge.

Looking Ahead

Everyday Religion and Sustainable Environments in the Himalaya

“It’s time to reshape the nature of big questions. At ICI, we are bringing together key people to rethink vital questions like:

What are the truly important issues?

How is the world changing?

If we can get thinkers in India, China, and the United States not only to agree about the biggest questions, but to decide the shape and scope of them, then the answers will have a certain range of durability that answers in the past have not had. That’s a big ambition.

But The New School has always been about big ambitions.”

Mission Statement:

“The India China Institute (ICI) at The New School, a university in New York City, supports research, teaching and discussion on India, China and the United States, with special focus on making comparisons and understanding interactions between the three countries as well as their joint impact on the rest of the world. ICI is the hub of an international network of scholars, leaders, and opinion-makers. Through fellowships, courses, public events, publications, and collaboration with a wide range of institutions around the world, ICI promotes academic and public understanding of issues of contemporary relevance.”

trip, but also creates an institutional platform of discussion. I

scholars from India, China and US. The topics of ICI programs
