The main image on the contents page is a collage of pictures made up from the images on the front cover and it is used to reaffirm what the main story is about. The main image dominates the page, as this goes along with the codes and conventions of contents pages.

The subsidiary images are all different sizes to the main image, as the magazine wants the reader to know what the main story will be about. All of the images are also anchored by the coverlines and page numbers. The credits for the main image are also on this page, in the bottom left hand corner.

The page numbers comply with the codes and conventions, as they anchor the pictures and connect the picture with the coverline underneath it.

Subscription details are normally always on the contents pages of the magazine, therefore its one of the first things that the reader sees when opening the magazine, the red background makes the advert stand out more aswell. I think the positioning of this advert is good, because its in the bottom right hand corner, therefore you see it as your about to turn the page.

The font size on this contents page will be approximately 12/13pt. All the titles are also in bold, meaning that they show up and stand out from the rest of the text. All of the coverlines are in capital letters, apart from the ‘contents’ sign & the sublines. This makes us see the headings the magazine wants us to read.

The coverlines on this contents page are yellow headings on black backing making them stand out. The font size used for this is quite small, i predict that it is about 12-13pt. The smallest font on the page is the editors letter, and the largest the ‘Contents’ sign, then the fonts between this differ. The editor has also chose to insert bold text and different fonts to make certain parts stand out more. The editor will choose to do this to indicate to the reader which stories are significant.

The date & issue number are underneath the ‘contents’ sign, fitting with the codes and conventions of contents pages. The website will also be on the page, aswell as possible contact details. This could be where the subscription details are.

The coloursheme is the same throughout the page, and also on the front cover. The way the colours have been organised is good, and there is always a light colour (yellow/white) on a dark background (black/red) or vice versa. This is a good technique as it makes the words stand out more.

An editors letter does not exist in every magazine, but quite a few magazines have one. The editors letter gives us as the reader the chance to know what the editor was trying to do whilst putting together the magazine, it gives a informal link between the editing team and the mass consumer, and it is a good way to keep us engaged or to give the reader an idea of what the magazine is about.

The Kerrang contents page is split into 4 columns, the main image takes up three of the coloumns and the subsidiary images take up one coloum, this is a nice way to get the different images organised neatly. The features are displayed by using the images on the contents page and under the heading “This Week”, This list then has Sub Headings, where this weeks contents is split into certain sections.

Kerrang as a brand - the kerrang front cover and contents page show clear similarities, for example the colour scheme consists of only 4 colours, some used more than others, another similarity is the fonts used in the magazine. The genre of bands that are on the cover and contents page are similar and kerrang as a magazine have a clear target audience - anybody with a keen interest in rock music.
