- Be Responsible for...
- your actions
- your learning
- your classmates
- Be Ready to learn
- Self and materials
Have all materials ready: Notebook, paper, pen/pencil
School Rules
Rules and Expectations
- Uniform Policy
- No...
- food, uncovered drinks, or gum in classes
- cell phones, i-pods, etc use in classes
Attendance
- Reasons to be in school every day
- We will miss you if you are not here!
- You will miss out on assignments, notes, tests, and other learning opportunities that you will have to make up, and it’s way harder to make up work.
- I will call your family if you are often absent, especially if your grades are suffering.
- Attendance and grades are closely linked. It is VERY hard to pass if you are gone - even one absence a month can KILL your grade.
- I give reading quizzes nearly every day at the beginning of class. If you are absent and this does not get made up you will receive a zero. You cannot make these up in the even of an unexcused absence or tardy.
If you have to miss school
- Let me and the office know as soon as possible. Give the office a written note from your parents
- When you arrive back to school, check the boxes and collect any work you’ve missed.
- Ask your classmates what you missed (ask at least two smart people)
- You will need to meet with me before or after school to get caught up.
If Rules are not followed...
- Quick verbal warning
- 10 min meeting with me after school
- 1 hour detention after school, phone call home (usually your choice)
- Admin referral, meeting with parents, etc.
Welcome to
World History!
Find your seat, but don't get too comfortable
- Answer in complete sentences please
- Some of this information WILL become public, so be aware. If there is anything you want me to know but don't want the whole class to know, there is space for you at the end.
- If there is a question you can't answer, it's okay to leave it blank.
- If you are a comic, now is a good time to use those humor skills.
- Feel free to talk to your table-mates as you work, I'll be coming around to practice your names.
Student Interest Inventory
- Formative assignments: 30% of your grade will be your classwork, homework, notes, short writing assignments, and daily quizzes. These assignments help you learn and practice the material
- Summative Assessments: 70% of your grade will be essays, tests, papers, and projects that show you've learned the material.
Grades
Interactive Notebooks
- You will need a spiral notebook ASAP (tomorrow would be ideal)
- Most of your classwork and notes will belong in this notebook.
- Notebooks will travel between school and home EVERY day
- They will graded on a weekly or bi-monthly basis
Your homework every night will consist of a reading assignment. You will need to take annotations of the reading in your interactive notebook. These annotations will be graded. You will also have a quiz every day (1st thing!) on the reading.
