Digi-Packs

Student Examples

What Have I Learnt?

This digi-pack has again, gone for the simplistic approach. It uses two of the same images and just flips the the opposite way. I think that despite how easy and simplistic this is (and quite uncreative) it actually works really well. The two coloured pictures are also a big plus point to this digi pack, because they are amazing photos; they look very professional. Something I don't like about it is the fact that 4 out of 6 of the images are black and white, and the other two are in full colour, with slight colour manipulation in the track name page. It looks out of place and there is no apparent reason as to why this has been done? However, this pack incorporates the use of a barcode and information on the back, making it look more like a proper digi pack.

From looking at these past student examples, I have realised how crucial it is to include the basic codes and conventions on the digi packs, because without them, they can look really bland. It is as though the simple inclusion of these can really bring the images to life. Also, I have noticed how most students opt for simplicity, over a really complex design. I think that the simplicity side is quite good; however, there is a fine line between the simplicity effect, and making it seem as though not enough time/effort has been put in.

This example has opted to use a monocolour scheme, with just one colour being visible; red. I really like it when this is done, because it really makes the red seem more powerful - also, the method works really well with the eerie effect that that student has tried to create. I also like the song names page. I think the background image is quite cool and it goes well with the text. I do think, however, that it doesn't quite contain enough 'things' on it. It really could do with a barcode and some record label images.

I don't like the use of the red tint in the text. I think that it looks a bit 'horror spoof' and would probably look a lot better if it was just the text itself.

Overall, I think this digi-pack is okay, but could be done better. The link between the images and the 'Nightmare' are quite good, because its quite fitting.

This digi pack is an example from this school; one of last years work. I think this digi pack is a bit too simple. It has taken direct shots from the video itself, and just shoved them in. The front and back look quite good actually. The fonts used are quite effective and the boat looks quite cool, however, I think it is quite apparent that the student has had to rush making this. It is also lacking in any barcodes or record label info on the back - which is something that I feel is essential. Despite this, the link with the song name and the front and back pictures is quite cool. I think if a bit more care, this could have been made a lot better, just by adding some key conventions of digi packs, which have been left out.

My Favourite

This digi pack is my personal favourite, out of the ones I have analysed. I feel that despite the colour issue I mentioned earlier, the photographs look very good, and I think the manner in which has been done looks the best. It also includes several of the typical conventions of digi packs.
