Farming Project!
Chris Buettner
Period 4-5
The bank will loan me $1,200,000.
If x=cotton(acres) and y=pistachio(acres) then my budget is,
1000x+3000y[less than or equal to]$1,200,000
If a fertilizer company is supplying me
with 340 units of fertilizer per acre
than that means I have obtained 204,000 uints of fertilizer
The water district is also alloting me 1.7 acre-feet
of water per acre.
This means that I have 1,020 acre-feet of water for my crops
Cotton requires 300 units of fertilizer per acre and 2 acre-feet of water per acre
Pistachios take 400 units of fertilizer per acre and 1 acre-foot of water per acre.
Fertilizer: 300x+400y [less than or equal to] 204,000
Water: 2x+1y [less than or equal to] 1,020
Cotton = X
Pistachios = Y
A new state law that states that pistachios cannot take up more than 60% and cotton cannot take up more than 80% of your land.
In that case,
0[less than or eqaul to]X[less than or eqaul to]480
0[less than or eqaul to]Y[less than or eqaul to]360
Cotton = X
Pistachios = Y
Now it is time to determine my profit equation.
If I make $500 on cotton and $1000 on pistachios
my equation should looke like this...
500x+1000y=Profit
Cotton = X
Pistachio = Y
This is the polygon that is created when I graph all of the quations
These are the equations and the point that shows my maximum profit.
To maintain my crops I must spray them with an herbicide.
It must be 36% glysophate. I have 12% and 54%. How many
gallons of each will I have to mix to obtain a 36% mixture?
I must mix 4.5 gallons of 54% glysophate with 214.3 gallons of 12% glysophate to obtain a 36% mixture.
To keep my pistachios in a good condition they must be pruned.
In the amount of time alloted the job gets done at a rate of 99 acres per crew. If I need 312 acres pruned, I need 4 crews.
Conclusions:
- I have a plot of land that has a area of 600 acres
- My budget is 1,200,000
- I have 204,00 units of fertilizer & 1,020 acre-feet of water
- To calculate my profit use the eguation 500x+1000y=Profit
- To get the maximum profit, plant 264 acres of cotton and 312 acres of pistachios
- To create a mixture of 36% glysophate I need to mix 4.5 gallons of 54% glysophate with 214.3 gallons of 12% glysophate.
- In order to prune my pistachios in 216 hours I need 4 crews.
I have obtained a plot of land.
