The visual effects we take in, and decide to take in have much more significance than we realize.
Negative vs. Positive
What is the reasoning behind why we have positive and negative connotations of certain things when there is no set pattern of what we interpret as good and bad?
Exposition
The Santa Fe Art Walk included artists that
found the desire to portray things ones might find repulsive, or uneasy to look at.
Rather than show art that is generally
considered art because it is aesthetically pleasing,
these artists set out art that stirs the mind and emotions.
Exigence
The unpleasantry of art has multiple functions.
These artisits exhibited visuals people do not tend to want to see, because it exposes our mind to the things we consider as negative.
But a main factor of what brings about this negativity, is the fact that we are not exposed to it.
If we expose our senses
and mind to the things we
don't normally embrace, it
brings a culture shock
that we are not
accustomed to.
In time, we learn to find beauty in the "ugliness"
As our eyes suffer for a momentand
our mind spins with mixed feelings
and thoughts, our minds also broaden.
These artists understand the
dire need for us as humans to
constantly rub and broaden our
thinking; to keep questioning our
core values by facing the things
we don't want to see or think about.
We need to view this art in order for society to grow as a whole.
- For people to put their
strong opinions and values
to the ultimate test after we
expose ourselves to what we
previously considered "bad"
Bad can become good, and good can become bad.
We reestablish our presumptuous beliefs with stronger reasoning.
- For the mind to expand,
and for people to have a
better understanding of
other cultures they are not
accustomed to....
