In the year that King Uzziah died

I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne,

high and lifted up;

and the train of his robe filled the temple.

Above him stood the seraphim.

Each had six wings:

with two he covered his face,

and with two he covered his feet,

and with two he flew.

And one called to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;

the whole earth is full of his glory!”

And the foundations of the thresholds shook

at the voice of him who called,

and the house was filled with smoke.

And I said:

“Woe is me! For I am lost;

for I am a man of unclean lips,

and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;

for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me,

having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

Our God is in the heavens

he does all that he pleases

Look down from heaven and see,

from your holy and beautiful habitation.

Where are your zeal and your might?

The stirring of your inner parts

and your compassion

are held back from me.

As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming metal.

And from the midst of it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had a human likeness, but each had four faces, and each of them had four wings.

Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf's foot. And they sparkled like burnished bronze. Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands.

And the four had their faces and their wings thus: their wings touched one another. Each one of them went straight forward, without turning as they went. As for the likeness of their faces,

each had a human face. The four had the face of a lion on the right side, the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and the four had the face of an eagle. Such were their faces.

And their wings were spread out above. Each creature had two wings, each of which touched the wing of another, while two covered their bodies. And each went straight forward.

Wherever the spirit would go, they went, without turning as they went. As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire,

like the appearance of torches moving to and fro among the living creatures. And the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

And the living creatures darted to and fro, like the appearance of a flash of lightning.

Now as I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them. As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction:

their appearance was like the gleaming of beryl. And the four had the same likeness, their appearance and construction being as it were a wheel within a wheel.

When they went, they went in any of their four directions without turning as they went. And their rims were tall and awesome, and the rims of all four were full of eyes all around.

And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; and when the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose. Wherever the spirit wanted to go, they went,

and the wheels rose along with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those rose from the earth,

the wheels rose along with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

Over the heads of the living creatures there was the likeness of an expanse, shining like awe-inspiring crystal,

spread out above their heads. And under the expanse their wings were stretched out straight, one toward another.

And each creature had two wings covering its body. And when they went,

I heard the sound of their wings like the sound of many waters,

like the sound of the Almighty, a sound of tumult like the sound of an army.

When they stood still, they let down their wings.

And there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads.

When they stood still, they let down their wings.

And above the expanse over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire;

and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness with a human appearance.

And upward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were gleaming metal,

like the appearance of fire enclosed all around.

And downward from what had the appearance of his waist

I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness around him.

Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain,

so was the appearance of the brightness all around.

Such was the appearance

of the likeness

of the glory

of the Lord.

behold, with the clouds of heaven

there came one like a son of man,

and he came to the Ancient of Days

and was presented before him.

And to him was given

dominion and glory and a kingdom,

that all peoples, nations, and languages

should serve him;

his dominion is an everlasting dominion,

which shall not pass away,

and his kingdom one

that shall not be destroyed.

"Look,"

he said,

"I see

heaven open

and the Son of Man

standing

at the right hand

of God."

Father of the fatherless

and protector of widows

is

God in his holy habitation.

A throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal.

And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,

who was and is and is to come!”

And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,

to receive glory and honor and power,

for you created all things,

and by your will they existed and were created.”

Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” And he said to them, “When you pray, say

when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this

For you are our Father,

though

Abraham does not know us,

and Israel does not

acknowledge us;

you, O LORD, are our Father,

our Redeemer

from of old is your name.

All things have been handed over to me

by my Father,

and no one knows the Son

except the Father,

and no one knows the Father

except the Son

and anyone

to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

you yourselves

like living stones

are being built up

as a spiritual house,

to be a holy priesthood,

to offer spiritual sacrifices

acceptable to God

through Jesus Christ.

He came to his own,

and his own people

did not receive him.

But to all who did

receive him,

who believed in his name,

he gave the right to

become children of God,

who were born,

not of blood

nor of the will of the flesh

nor of the will of man,

but of God.

For he who sanctifies

and those who are sanctified

all have one source.

That is why he is not ashamed

to call them brothers, saying,

"I will tell of your name to my brothers;

in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise."

Then came

one of the seven angels ...

and spoke to me, saying,

"Come, I will show you

the Bride,

the wife

of the Lamb."...

and showed me

the holy city Jerusalem

coming down out of heaven

from God,

having the glory of God,

its radiance

like a most rare jewel,

like a jasper,

clear as crystal.

For just as the body is one

and has many members,

and all the members of the body,

though many, are one body,

so it is with Christ.

For in one Spirit

we were all baptized

into one body—

Jews or Greeks,

slaves or free—

and all were made

to drink of one Spirit.

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven,

"You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda, the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er, the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim, the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David, the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Sala, the son of Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, the son of Admin, the son of Arni, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam,

the son of God.

‘In him we

live

and move

and have our being’;

as even some of

your own poets have said,

“‘For we are

indeed

his offspring.’

Father,

hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come.

Give us each day our daily bread,

and forgive us our sins,

for we ourselves forgive

everyone who is indebted to us.

And lead us not into temptation.

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven

our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil."

For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen
