Buzz About Bees

EGGS

The queen bee

lays individual eggs

in the cells of the

honeycomb.

The average bee flaps its wings 200 cycles per second, allowing it to fly up to 24 km/hour!

Honeybees visit nearly 1,000,000 flowers in

order to create one pound of honey

ADULT

LARVAE

Queens are

labelled with

glossy print

marks so that

they are easier

for beekeepers

to find.

The adult bee emerges

from the honeycomb

about 15 to 24 days

after the eggs are laid.

Larvae hatch from the fertilized eggs in 3 days and are then fed by the worker bees.

QUEEN BEE

Many plants depend on bees to pollinate their flowers in order to make new seeds. In fact, bees pollinate 87 of the world's 115 most important food crops.

Today, it is estimated that there are 19.500 species of bees found all over the world, on all continents but Antarctica

PUPAE

Pupae develop from

the larvae and begin growing all the adult body parts.
