How can math
be used to
improve oned
performance
in hockey?
During the Game!
Quality is Better than Quantity!
- If you take the time to do your strides correctly, you will skate much faster than if you were to do quick little strides (you will go further quicker, rather than getting tiered and going a shorter distance!)
Passing the Right way
- how low or high you put your hands on the stick, how to finish your pass, where you are looking, how hard you are passing, how curved your stick is; these are all aspects of making a good pass!
Power Plays!
- in the event of a power play, since there will be an extra player on the ice with you, you must always use this ratio to your advatage to score!
Face Off!
- when you play center, if you do your homework of how long it actually take for the puck to drop , you will react faster and will ALWAYS have a better chance of winning the face off!
Making the save!
6th man on the ice
- May players forget that a goalie can be used to their advantage during a game, as he/she IS the 6th man on the ice!
Want to be a goalie?
- Being a goalie isn't as easy as it seems! you need to be able to stop a puck that is one inch (1'') thick and three inches (3'') in diameter, all from going into a net that is 6 feet wide by 4 feet high; so many holes, one goalie can't cover!
Hiding the net
- something all goalies should know if the goalie comes out of the crease to try and stop the shooter from scoring, he actually limits his opponents skills to find an opening to shoot the puck in. Experienced goalies call this "cutting off the angle" of the shooter because he will only see 10 % of open area instead of originally seeing 30 to 40 %, making harder for him to score!
How are my stats looking like?
knowing your stats!
- how to calculate your stats;NHL like!
- Goalie Saves = Shots On Goal - Scores
- Goalie Saves Percentage = Shots On Goal - Goals Scored / Shots On Goal
- Scoring Percentage = Shots On Goal - Goals Scored / Shots On Goal
- Scoring Points = Goals Scored + Assists
- Team Points = Wins * 2 + Ties
- Saves Ratio = Shots On Goal / Saves
- Scoring Ratio = Shots On Goal / Scores
- Games Won Percentage = Games Won / Games Won + Games Lost + Games Tied (Games Played)
Improving!
- Knowing your stats will help you see where you need to get better at, setting a goal to improve for the next game!
Shooting the right way
How are you holding your stick?
- depending on what type of shot you want to take, where you position your hands on your stick will affect your shot.
Being big isn't always a bad thing
- If you do your weight transfer correctly when shooting, your shot will go MUCH faster!
Where to shoot?
- geometry is key for shooting! If you have no angle when shooting at the net, you have ZERO chances of getting it in!
Master your own shot!
- Probibility will help you in great ways; take your time to see where is the best spot shoot for you, so when come in games try and shot from there, that way the puck has more chances of going in!
