The name of the village was mentioned for the first time in the 15th century. The village is famous for its Saint Trinity church, lower secondary school, lake Alovė and the river Alovėlė.
In September 2008 The Coat of Arms was given to the county of Alovė. The God eye, which protects the village, represents the church of Alovė; the line symbolizes the river Alovėlė; three silver circles demonstrate the treasure of the village.

People tell that tin (in Lithuanian - alavas) was found in the river. On sunny days the river sparkles with a lot of colours. Supposedly, for this reason the village was named 'Alovė'.
Near Alovė, only one kilometre far away, there is Poteronys mound.
