- Focuses on modern bands and also hip hop and alternates each month between the genres.
- Popular to a teenage audience as it looks at bands that teenagers listen to but also can look at an older audience as well.

- Britain's oldest music magazine was released first in July 1926
- Originally a magazine that looked at jazz music but later moved in to the unoccupied area of rock and indie.
- Was later merged with its long standing rival new musical express.

- Q Magazine is not set on a specific genre as it looks at music from a different perspective that in other magazines so it has a wide target audience
- To conclude from this research of modern and older music magazines it is evident that there is still as large audience for them as a large proportion of the magazines that have been running from the early to mid 20th century are still running. This show the interest that there is in the music industry at the current time andf it seems to vary over many different age catagories.
Rolling stone magazine
- First published on 20th September 1967
- Set up and first published in America
- Associated with music that young people listen too as the target audience has been more focused on younger people due to their larger use of the internet and other technologies.
Top of the Pops magazine
- First issue released on 1st February 1995 in the UK
- Published by BBC magazines
- Aimed at younger people as it discusses music such as pop and other.
- Focuses on a niche audience compared with other magazines that are published for a similar purpose.
NME
- 7th March 1952
- Set up in the UK
- Associated with the Rock genre
- Running today as one of the most popular read music magazines showing that the rock genre still has a large audience.

Billboard music
- originally Set up in 1894
- renamed Billboard music in 1961.
- First publish in USA.
- Despite not looking at a specific genre it is designed for people in the music industry and looks at music from a more technical and professional view.
- Launched 1st September 1978
- First launched in the UK
- Last issue 16th February 2006
- Focused on the pop genre and was aimed at a younger audience due to the type of music not being as popular with old people.
Mojo magazine
- First published in November 1993
- First published in the UK
- Looks at classic rock music which has a wide range of ages for an audience meaning that there is large group of people to cater for so it has to contain a large variety of types of rock music.
Kerrang!
Spin
- UK based magazine first released on 6th June 1981
- Devoted to heavy rock and heavy metal
- Sells to a wide audience still despite some sale drops over recent time due to the different desires of the audiences.
- American magazine first published in May 1985
- Closed production in September 2012
- Mainly focused on rock and hip-hop in its early years but moved on to other genres and looked at music from other areas once audiences fo this type of music began to dwindle.
