Why is it Important to Link Marketing Texts Together?

Same characters in both; size indicating importance

I chose to look at a trailer and poster from Alice in Wonderland as an example of media texts being linked together.

It is important to link marketing texts together so it doesn't throw the audience off as to what tone and genre the film is. They are also linked to reinforce each other on the plot of a film. If a person doesn't understand the plot from one, they can use the other text to expand their view. They are also linked to make the audience remember the film. Repetition is memorable.

Lots of black on the poster - dark and mysterious theme recurring in the trailer

Wacky fantasy setting - giant mushrooms, cat cloud
