I had very little experience with cameras before I started doing Media studies so I had to learn how to use them in order to make my film. The preliminary task enabled me to learn how to use the camera effectively and practice shots that I wanted to use in my main piece.
The filming was also a lot simpler for the preliminary task as we were able to do it in lessons and without having to travel. The preliminary task was a good introduction and set up the main task well as it introduced us to the technologies like the cameras, tripods and editing. Unfortunately I didn’t realise how important the editing was during the preliminary task as me and Tom allowed Sam to do the majority of the editing which in hindsight wasn’t the best option as I had to learn how to edit by myself for the main task.
Editing was defiantly the most time consuming part. The brief bit of editing experience I got doing the preliminary task was a basic starting part but by putting the time in I was able to get a grip of the tools and techniques required to edit my film to what I believe to be a good standard.
For the preliminary task I was working in a group with Sam and Tom. We started the task by planning what we were going to do as we did the majority of the filming for the task in school apart from the last part of the film that Sam did out of school. We did a small amount of planning for it but it was a lot easier with three of us working on it rather than just me like it was for the main task.
The step up from the preliminary task to the main task was quite big but without doing the preliminary and learning the steps the main task would have been very difficult.
