In my opinion Closed for the Season would be great for people who enjoy mystery and horror stories. The main character in my book is very nosy. The boys name was Logan and he moved into an old house. People said an old lady was murdered there. His new neighbor told him that the old lady that lived there before him worked at a place called the Enchanted Forest. I remember hearing about someplace like that before. I reasearched it and it appears to be an amusement park in Salem, Oregon. One of my favorite parts in Closed f0r the Season is when the boys jumped over the fence to get into the Enchanted Forest tyring to sneak in with the police right there. I think that when the boys first met they were really funny together because Logan didn't like the boy, but he needed a friend in the area so he put up with him anyway.
I think the book was more exciting because of the way Mary Downing Hahn wrote it.
In the beginning of Closed for the Season, Logan Forbes and his family had to move to a different town. Their new house was old looking and wasn't very stable, but they had to move due to his father’s new job. His dad was going to be the new art teacher at his new school.
The first day they moved into their new house, the neighbors Arthur, his grandmother, and their dog Bear, came to visit. The dog Bear used to belong to Mrs. Donaldson. Arthur was the same age as Logan. Even though Logan thought Arthur was the most annoying kid in the world, he still forced himself to become his friend because he needed a friend in the area. For the first part of the book the only thing Logan heard about from anyone, was the fact that he moved into the murder house. Which he did.
An old woman named Mrs. Donaldson, with a daughter named Violet lived in the house before Logan moved there. People said she was murdered there but Logan didn't want to believe it. Arthur's grandmother was the one who found her dead at the bottom of her cellar stairs.
After Logan was convinced that Mrs. Donaldson had died in his house, he wanted to do some research on her and the house. Some people in the area were actually scared that the killer was still on the loose waiting to kill another. Many, many people said that the reason that Mrs. Donaldson was killed because she had supposedly buried about 1,000,000 dollars in the Enchanted Forest. The Enchanted Forest was the place where she worked. It used to be an amusement park.
Once they found that out, the boys found themselves getting into a lot of situations trying to figure out who the killer was and if there was really money to be found. There suspect list started to grow when they encountered people they knew in the Enchanted Forest while searching for clues. People also called the Enchanted Forest the "magic forest". The boy's went to the library for old newspapers in search for some history on Mrs. Donaldson and their new suspects. They also wanted some facts on Violet to see if she had any idea about the situation.
As Logan met some new friends even their parents became suspicious. At one time Logan's mom said that he wasn't allowed to see Arthur anymore because he was a bad example. They were getting into the mystery far too deep and putting themselves into harm and danger. An example of them getting into big trouble is when something was restricted on the library shelf and was a newspaper that you had to pay money to buy was stolen by them. They didn't want it to fall into the wrong hands, so they stole it in fear. But when Logan’s mother found out what Logan was up to she wanted to protect her son so she limited the time he spent with Arthur. Logan and Arthur continued to see each other frequently, secretly.
They had lots of questions. The most obvious two were:
Who killed Mrs. Donaldson? Where is the 1,000,000?
The others were:
Where can we find Mrs. Donaldsons daughter Violet? Does she know where the money is, if it's even there?
All of these questions can be answered if you read, Closed for the Season, by, Mary Downing Hahn.
My favorite character is Logan because
he is adventureous and sticks up for himself.
He made a great decision by becoming Arthur's
friend even though others made fun of him.
Logan is a great kid.
