How to create an impressive profile

Interesting Headline

Professional Headshot

Take a picture of yourself that looks professional and positive. Consider wearing office attire and choose a neutral backdrop for your photo.

Your headline should be compelling and make people want to read it, because it's one of the first things people will see. You don't necessarily need to write your current job in your headline. If you're looking for work in a particular industry say it here. You could also use your headline to reflect your career goals.

Use your name in your URL

Impressive Summary

Your name is part of your personal brand so use it in your URL

Your summary should be an expansion on your headline. It should be interesting to read and include contact information, your career goals, professional interests.

Be specific about your specialties

Don't list all the skills you have, choose the ones that are relevant to your chosen career. Listing all your skills will make it harder for employers to see what you excel at, and what are you are interested in working in.

Include your full education history and add any society memberships or groups you were a part of.

Highlight your achievements

This could include:

  • Awards from work, school or University
  • Leicester Award
  • Sports Achievements
  • Musical Achievements

Get recommendations

You should get at least three recommendations.

Ask your manager, your colleagues, people you have worked on projects with in the past. If you are struggling you could ask lecturers or if you are on a society, ask committee members.

Join some groups

'Focus on quality rather than quantity... Don’t just get recommendations that say how great you are. Get recommendations that focus on results you have generated (i.e. making a company money, finding new customers, creating a new program, leading a team or project that produced certain results...'
