Question four:
Evaluation question Four
We used a range of technologies in the construction, research and planning as well as the evaluation stages. As a group we used the internet, YouTube, BBC iPlayer (for soap opera episodes), Blogger, Prezi, Microsoft Word, Paint and Excel.
Research
In our research and planning we used technologies such as 4OD and BBC iPlayer to watch the most recent episodes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street, we wanted to see the most up-to-date episodes as our target audience was for young adults and teenagers and our soap opera is seen as modern we needed a good approach. As we would look at episodes and note down all the conventional aspects (lighting, mise-en- scene and others) we would put all of our research on to our own blog. Blogger was one of the main technologies that was used in all these stages everything was technology based, which I enjoyed as it helped me keep everything organized throughout the course. We researched on the internet to find out specific information to provide ourselves with the best possible knowledge to make our soap opera as conventional as possible.
During the research and planning stages, our group made presentations with a program called 'Prezi', a website where you design a presentation online in which you can control which is a better layout and do more with than a normal Microsoft PowerPoint, we used this technology as it was easy to use & share and looks better presented. We also used other programs like Microsoft Excel, this was used in the planning and research stage to put together shot lists and film schedules as when coming to use it for filming in construction stages it was easy to follow and helped us out a lot when thinking that we may have missed something out in filming and helping out with time management as we only had a specific amount of time in our organized location. Our group made videos with cameras which were then put them on to our Apple Mac Computer to edit in a program designed for film editing called 'iMovie' this was easy-to-use and interesting to find out what was possible to do to make our videos as creative as possible.
construction
During the construction stages we used 'Blogger' to pull off all the information needed to start filming our soap opera trailer, after organising a location for us to gather our actors at we were given permission to use a HD Camera so that our film could be have the high definition look. The camera was fun to check all the different options it came with for example, when taking pictures for our poster we checked out taking photos with and without the flash to see what the outcome was and see what the best and worst shots were. We took the pictures on our magazine cover with the normal camera at first but changed our minds as a group as the HD Camera was noticeably better quality than the first pictures taken.
When designing our magazine and poster in the construction pages we decided to use 'Microsoft Word' and ‘Paint’ as there was more we could do with our product to make it look better than using a software such as 'Microsoft Publisher'. After using different tools on 'Microsoft Word' like shapes, changing their border and fill, using different text fonts and colours we decided to print screen the page and use the program 'Paint' as it's more straight forward to use.
We (my group) did try to challenge ourselves by using a different technology when using our old footage with a program called 'Final Cut' on the Apple Mac Computer, however we found that we couldn't slow down our footage like seen in our final soap opera trailer in the second shot. We found that we could only freeze frame and as we were slowing down so much of our film the rendering would stop and we would have to cancel the software on Task Manager. In the end we decided to use 'iMovie' as there was so much more we could do with our trailer to make it look more professional as we already had the knowledge from using ‘IMovie’ before.
Evaluation
For my Question one and four I have presented them through a program called 'Prezi' as mentioned before, a website where you design a presentation online in which you can control which is a better layout and do more with than a normal Microsoft PowerPoint, we used this technology as it was easy to use & share and looks better presented.
Even in the Evaluation I have used 'iMovie' to present my Question 3 in evaluation. I have used voiceovers with myself and other people to give back feedback within my question to be as creative as possible, I have used different backgrounds and fonts to get opinions and views across.
To conclude myself and my group have used a range of new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages to create all mine and my group work.
Question by Question...
I have also used 'Microsoft Word' to present my evaluation question 2. I did this as it is different and isn’t as creative as the other questions however it is still very effective it gives all the information the others do just more straight forwardly.
