Transcript: Tracking Progress We want to thank you for coming tonight to listen and learn about cancer and how it affects children all over the world. We made the world a better place for the children in hospitals who are trying to get well from having cancer. Thank you again, Zoe Griffin, Porter Gardiner, Riley Dauwen, and McKinley Boulter. 70 % Benchmarks 20 % Scrimmages (Unit Test) + 10 % Practice ______________________________ 100 % Total Scrimmages Purposeful learning Clear focus and expectations Real time data Teacher driven and teacher created Forms a “School District” instead of a “District of Schools” Benchmarking What is Common Core? Benefits What is it? Data: Grading: Math Mid-Unit and Unit Test Need Math: 55 % Unit Test & Mid-Unit Tests 30 % Writing (workshop, process, finished pieces), Speaking, Listening, Research 15 % Practice (Improvement in scaled scores & reading levels, centers, classwork, homework, projects,) __________________________________________ 100 % Total Other districts have adopted benchmarking and have become successful Center School District Boone Elementary (Ntl. Recognition) Grandview School District Sci.: Data: Partnering with PREP-KC on college/career readiness, improving high school programming and Math Benchmarks has resulted in a marked increased in student achievement. As a result of this partnership, our district, where three out of four students are economically disadvantaged, performs at levels comparable to advantaged districts. PREP-KC’s support and know-how is the tipping point for maximizing opportunity for our students. –Ralph Teran, Superintendent, Grandview C-4 School District Report Cards The Results Scaffold success with testing for students Creates accountability with students Positive peer pressure (Benchmark Charts) Intrinsic motivation Backwards Design – “Teach ya!” not a “Gotcha!” Hickman Mills School District Quick feedback within 24 hours of benchmarks You determine when to give the benchmarks Benchmarks can be exit slips NO formal pretests - we assess informally Benchmark crate - Practice Benchmark crate We have access to all assessments from the beginning! Stay on track with curriculum Final Notes: Teacher chart: binder tracking all students Student chart: displayed in the classroom Boone Elementary was named a Silver Award school last month, one of eight schools to receive this honor, by the National Center for Urban School Transformation at San Diego State University “I want to thank PREP KC for their continued support of Center’s Math Benchmarking project. The support and consultative service PREP-KC provided important fuel to our efforts to provide Algebra I to all 8th grade students and improve Math preparation in general from 3rd grade through high school. This past year the Center School Districthit a new high in meeting all 14 of the state’s 14 standards. Without PREP-KC’s collaborative work in Math, meeting all 14 standards would still be goal just beyond our reach.” –Bob Bartman, Superintendent, Center School Districtv Benefits Conclusion Math Types of Assessments: Each unit has one mid-unit and unit assessment Aligns with Treasures Series Unit test taken on Acuity Has a testing window + English Language Arts: Types of Assessments Reading assessment covering numerous skills Mid-Units are 15 to 25 questions Unit Tests about 30 questions One version given once *Not a true benchmarking system (doesn't assess every "I Can" individually) Benchmarking CA: Assesses one “I Can” Statement (like a short quiz) 4 to 6 questions, or a performance assessment 5 versions of each Students must pass 2 at 70% Wait at least 24 hours before giving the second test May be taken as many times as necessary to pass Paper-pencil given and teacher graded Is a standards based instructional and grading system that sets students up for success Let's Read: Article 1.
