BMW's History

1913- Karl Friedrich Rapp started making aircraft engines.

1916- Rapp’s company had contract with Prussia and Austro-Hungary to produce 25 large V12 aircraft engines. An austrian engineer named Franz-Josef Popp, directed Rapp’s business.

1917- BMW’s first aircraft engines goes into production.

1920- BMW’s first motorcycle engine was produced

1928- BMW buys a car factory at Eisenach/Thuringia and with it the license to build a small car

1932- A new car was launched and was called the 3/20PS.

1936- BMW comes up with the world’s amazing roadster, one of the legends in racing history.

1945- BMW received the permission to repair U.S army vehicles.

1951- The first post war car was produced.

1956- Only 252 BMW 507 were built, which is one of the mostly recognized BMW classic. Some of them were also delivered to U.S and some guy named Max Hoffmann helped sold them.

1960- 20,000 BMW 700 were produced, which won twelve German championships.

1961- BMW launched its first “sporty sedan” the BMW 1500

1965- BMW withdraws from jet engine and focused on cars and motorcycle production.

1976- BMW launches the 6 series coupe.

1977- The 7 series BMW were introduced.

1983- The 5 series were remade, new body style and new engine.

1985- The M5 was the considered the fast car in the world.

1986- BMW introduced the M3

1999- BMW came out with their first suv, the X5.

2000- 2004- BMW continued to produce more cars.

2005- BMW started the production of the 5th gen 3 series.
