How Effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
I feel the ancillary tasks and the film worked well together, as they compliment each other. mainly the magazine spread and the film as the magazine spread is in empire magazine and the film is online on vimeo and the audience from empire would be more likely to go online and therefore read the special article and look at it online as this is there medium, also as the film is onlone younger viewers will have easier acess to it after seeing the poster which is on billboards.
What have you learnt from your audience feedback
Audience feedback is an important part when making a short film and the ancillary tasks. For the Magazine review we created we asked people thier opinions, from this we learnt that the font we had chosen no-one liked it as they thought it made it harder to read, we found out that some people prefered different sizes of font when other people refered different colours. We later when back to the magazine review and changed it to appeal more to our target audience.
To find out our target audience we created a questionnaire, we asked them questions like What time of genre do you prefer, Where do you think a short film would be advertised.
From this we were able to see what age our film would appeal to and how long they assume a short film should las for. Because our audience was young by uploading our final video to vimeo it was easier for them to consume.
We have also uploaded a vieo of us presenting our idea to a class, from this we found out if they would be interested in our film and they aslso gave us some information on how they would change it to make it appeal more towards them.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challege forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media product doesnt conform to one genre which means it challenges the conventions of normal films. The film starts off with a thriller theme as its very mysterious, the characters in the film are not the steorotypical characters associated with thriller as we do not have a damsel in distress and a hero, we have more of a villain, however we have not made it clear who is the antagonist is which challenges the conventions of a thriller, the film is also black and white and has no dialogue, just music which is more associated with film noir.
How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
Evaluation
For my evaluation i have gained feedback from audiences, i then posted about this on my blog and for my overall evaluation i am using prezi, an online presentation site, i am using this as it is easier to access from a media perspective.
Construction
When constructing our film we used different forms of technology such as a digital camera, We used a digital camera as it was our only resource as it was provided for us by the school, although the quality of filming wasnt high due to editing we managed to make it look better, we edited our film on imovie and used multiple transitions and sound effects to enhance our film, during the filming stages we used many different camera angles including canted, wide angle, over the shoulder and pan shot. We used C.Ds to create our soundtrack.
Planning
When researching For the planning stages we watched a film called Colin, this film was created on a very small budget, which would relate to ours. from this we realised we would be able to crearte a film that would look good. this also taught us not to use alot of long scenes as this would bore the viewer. For our first ideas we made storyboards, which i have uploaded onto blogger, on the storyboards we added the camera angles and how we could create mise-en-scene
Research
To research short film we looked on the internet to find out the different conventions of short films and how they apply to the different genres. We also watch multiple films such as serial mom, Paris je taime which featured many different genres and directors. after this we decided we wanted to make a thriller, we then searched on youtube for directors who had made short thrillers such as steven speilbergs early work.
