Harvard Business Review (2008)
"Is Yours a Learning Organization?"
Organisational learning
The ability of an organisation to gain insight and understanding from experience. It involves experimentation, observation, analysis, and a willingness to examine both successes and failures (McGill et al., 1993)
As a process & activity through which organizations eventually aspire to become learning organisations (Finger & Brand, 1999; DuBrin, 2007)
What forces and influences affect practices in your workplace?
Are these taken into account in considering the managing change in your workplace?
Complete the survey and capture/record the results. Compare your results with other groups members and upload to your Group blog
- Change has become a pervasive concern for all organisations
- Organisational experts believe that an essential prerequisite to successful organisational change is organisational learning. So understanding how your organisation learns is important
- Improvement in sustainable organisational performance is based on a change in organisational behavior which is based on some form of organisational learning
Organisational learning:
- the learning process used in the organization
- concerned with the issue of how organisational members learn
- may result in a modification of behavior
Learning organisation reflects:
- how this learning moves the organisation towards its intended objectives and
- how learning is transmitted between individual, collective, organisational, inter-organizational entities
- may continue to evolve in terms of its behavior (Sun & Scott, 2003)
