My photo is what I put the most concentration into-

it needed to be perfect to make sure it made the effect I wanted, as I have realised that the best looking magazine covers on the market are those with good, professional looking photos.

I chose this outfit as it is a recognisable Ralf Lauren shirt, which is a well known fashion designer, and added the bow tie to show that this magazine is experimenting with fashion; it's a modern look which some celebrities have also adopted, making this model in fashion and creates the quirky style I wanted for the magazine.

I chose the grey edit; it needed to be as blank a background as possible like most magazines but plain white left it looking empty and fake. The green looked as if the picture was faded green/the t-shirt colour had bled to the backgroud, and the orange/pink colour brought another colour to the cover which made it too busy with pink, yellow and green which actually didnt look good together anyway.

In my first draft I tried to master the art of making the text go around the model- although I managed to make sure there was no overlapping, because the background was white my cover ended up looking empty but didn't need anymore cover lines without it looking too busy/confusing.

By using the grey edit of the photo it made the whole page look fuller, more like a magazine, and included some other shapes (e.g. a banner) to fill the page and add more colour and life

Unlike most real magazines, I did not put the magazine name behind my model. I thought this was sucessful in my magazine as it didn't distact away from the model, I purposely made sure that her hair was large so that it created a dark, plain background for the text to be without covering her face or clothing, which were important parts of the photo

By including the bar code, price sticker and banner across the bottom of the page, I think this made my magazine look like a real product.

By having the cover line which accompanies the model as the only coverline overlapping her, it makes it clear, as in real magazines, that this is the caption for the photo and the reason why she is in the magazine this issue. I think this is always made clear and is normally the biggest lettering on the cover (apart from the masthead) and so this is what I did too.

COVER

I chose this photo as it looks, altough casual and "cool", the pose looks very typical of a model and I wanted my magazine to be professional and linked to fashion.

I then edited the photo so that the background was neater (mostly one colour), and the model was clearer and brighter.

I had to choose between my two most suitable pictures
