Vertigo films...

Vertigo films is an UK independent film distributor. it was established within July 2002 by Allan Niblo and James Richardson. The ambition for this company was to produce films then, distribute many commercially driven independent films targeted towards a niche audience.

Vertigo productions would possibly be an option for our film in order to distribute it as it follows other similiarities to other companies for example, distributing low budgeted films consisting of low key actors. Another advantage for Vertigo to be our film distributor would be that their released films are all indepdent.

Arrow Films

Arrow Films is an example of an independent all rights multi - form UK film distributor which was established during the year of 1991.

I think that this media institution might be suitable to distribute our film as it aims to produce films following specific genres such as, horror, classic and cult films. However, as the company produces horror films it will follow usual conventions and stereotypes of horrors such as, to create tension and frighten the audience which is presented in some sequences of our film. In addition, Arrow Films is one of the UK's leading distributors for world cinemas, art houses, horrors and classical films. Also, as the production company is independent it follows similar traits to Warp Films which consist of, a smaller target audience and lower budget therefore, they have to gain financial support. They gain a higher income due to them being privileged by managing to work with some outstanding directors such as, Denys Arcand. Another advantage for Arrow Films is that they have been very successful whilst distributing films such as, 'Departure' as they won the Academy award during 2009.

- Under the Shadow

- The Incident

- Everyone has to die

- The Unbeatables

- Fifty Shades of Black

- Walking on Sunshine

- I'm the Angel of Death

Why have film distributors?

Here are some examples of film distributors:

  • Arrow Films
  • Verve Pictures
  • 20th Century Fox
  • Devilworks

A film distributor usually is responsible for marketing the specific film. In order to conduct a distributor for our short film, independently we all carried out some research upon some UK independent companies that distribute films to support thriller conventions. Furthermore, film distributors for example, Arrow Films tend to be funded by little organisations whereas, well known multi - conglomerates such as, 20th Century Fox. These juxtapose due to the fact that, independent distributors produce a lower budget which reflects that the production processes and camera that is used will be more afforable and cheaper. However, in a larger budgeted film this will consist of high quality equipment which will produce better and clearer footage in addition, it will be more expensive.

Independent film distributors are beneficial for our film as it targets a niche and small audience. Although, if we was to distribute our film to a mainstream cinema then it would target a wider audence and contain famous conglomerates such as Time Warner which is a multi - millionaire production in a way it connects with subsidaires to portray aspects of cross media ownership.
