Halloween has been celebrated in America since the beginning of the colonies! Americans put a new spin on celebrating Halloween.
Now, American Halloween is different from any other Halloween!
History of Halloween
Halloween has been celebrated for many, many years.
Although, it hasn't always been celebrated the same.
The Celtic people, called Druids, the Roman people, and the Christians and members of the Catholic Church celebrated what is now known as Halloween.
They all celebrated for different reasons, but they always celebrated it before winter!
Now it is one of the biggest holidays we celebrate in America today!

Halloween stands for All Hallows Eve
- Halloween is a very very old holiday.
- Halloween does not come from America!
- Halloween comes from medieval Britain!
- It started as an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. People used to dress up as ghosts!
- They thought that ghosts would come to life on this day each year.
Samhain --> All Hallows Eve --> Halloween!
We celebrate HALLOWEEN!
Halloween is celebrated in the United States, The United Kingdom, Spain, and other places!

At the beginning of every October, Americans decorate their houses to fit the theme of Halloween. You will see a lot of "haunted houses" in the neighborhood!

Now, every Halloween children and adults dress up in costumes of any kind and have parties! We also go trick-or-treating.
There are lots of Halloween activities besides trick-or-treating that we do! These include:
- bobbing for apples
- watching Halloween movies
- going on hayrides
- going to Haunted Houses
- painting and carving pumpkins, and more!
