It lets the copyright owner decide how their works are used. It also protects the author/composer's rights.

Public Domain?

SOme things can be copied because they are public Domain. that means that the copyright has expired.

There are both public domain and copyrighted things on the computer.

Is everything, that I as a student copy, fair use?

No, it must be for educational purposes and it cannot be used for profit.

If you buy a CD, book, song, DVD, etc. does that mean you own the copyright?

No, the copyright owner still owns the copyright.

For motion media you can include...

10% or three minutes of it.

You cannot copy an entire video. That is illegal.

If you are making a website you cannot use logos or trademarks.

If you include print it has to only have...

10% or 1000 words (whichever is less), 10% or 2 pages of a short kids book, and poems depending on length.
