The iPhone effect

EMANI DIAZ

POPULARITY

A 2014 study published in the journal Environment and Behavior constructed an experiment to examine the relationship between smartphones and people during social interactions.

*29, out of 100 pairs had mobile phones present during the conversation

*Those who conversed without the mobile device had felt greater empathy for their partner

*Those who conversed without a mobile device also reported a higher level of connectedness

Conclusion

iPhone's popularity increased rapidly upon release. According to Pew Internet report, more than half of all adults in 2013 had smartphones, which was a 21% increase from 2011.

However, many people benefit from the usage of smartphones.

*Great exposure to the latest things.

*Simple ways to access applications.

*Platform to grow along with technology.

*Overall access with communication and any questions or concerns.

Multitasking

iPhones introduced new possibilities and connections internationally. However, did it become a distraction instead ?

Attempts to multitask with iPhones have shown to impact driving ability, academic performance, and memory. Smart devices also expose us to wider networks of friends and communication. Some may argue that these are weaker connections compared to the tradition deep connections in person.
