When it come to our lyrics and visuals they are illustrated, which is a part of Goodwin's Theory where the visuals are doing exactly what the lyric say.
In our music video in the lyrics of the song there is a sentance in which it says 'Tell me if you think I'm what you see' and this relate to the music video becuase at this point the girl is looking in the mirror and doesnt see reflection, implying that she is inviable and noone really notices her or even takes notice when she is around. Therefore the visual kind of answer the question what they ask in the lyric's becuase people don't notice her so her not being showed in the reflections shows noone takes notice.
A music video that is well known that also has the lyrics illustrated in the visuals is 'Stupid Girl' by Pink. An example of where she shows what she says in her lyrics is when she says 'she's dancing in the video next to 50 cent', and there is a litural visual of her dancing next to 50 cent.
When it comes to voyeurism Goowdin had three different catogories which are, Sexualised having a lot of sexual references and purposly sexualising women, then there is Disjecta membra which is when only a certian part of a person body is show like there eyes or legs and the final one is Audience as voyeur which is to make the audience feel like they are watching something which the shouldn't be.
In our music video we decided to challange the image people see of girl bands, because most girls bands are very sexualised and we wanted to make our girl band seem like normal girls.
Here is a picture from our music video of the band memeber and also a picture of the Pussycat Dolls band members. you can see that they are very different from each other from where our band are dressed in non revealing clothes whereas the Pussycat Dolls are in very short shorts showing off their legs. This shows how me and my group challenged Goodwin's theory about sexualising women.
Here are screen grab from Destiny's Child music video 'Girl'.
In this music video it has the element of Audience as voyeur from where it is a scene which the audience are witnesses of what happens and it is also a quite personal moment, therefore even though the audience are witnesses they feel like they shouldn't be watching.
In Goodwin's theory he believe that the star should appear in their music video, so they are able to promote themselves and the image they are trying to portray and appeal to the target audience. For example we where trying to go for the image of real girls and are kind, which also related to the target audience we where going for.
That was a star image of Lil Mix who are also trying to go for the same image as what we are giving our girls, this image has been taken from their music video so their image is being shown in their. Their music video is also mostly performance based with only a few clip of them not singing.
Here is a picture of our girl band preforming in the studio, unlike Lil Mix's music video we have a narrative as well as performance. Yet in our performance parts we have the girls in a studio singing with the image we intended our girls to have which is that they are kind and real.
In Goodwin's theory he bleieved that every single music video is intertexual, this is because he thinks that all music video's reference other text weather it is meaning to or not. For example in our music video we relay on other peoples music video's for them to know what a recording studio looks like so they understand that when the girls are preforming they are in a recording studio.
Here is a picture of Ashlee Simpson in her music video 'Pieces Of Me'. In this screen grab she is in a recording studio singing her song.
This is a screen grab from our music video, of the girl also in a recording studio. This realtes to Ashlee Simpson's music video because we relay on video's like her for our audience to no and understand where they are and what they are doin, becuase some people may have never seen a recoding studio before but may no what it is from music video's which they have seen.
Goodwin's last theory was about genre identity. In this theory he believed that other music video's in the same genre should have the same sort of layout, so people are able to tell what genre a music video is from where it has similarities to music video in the same genre.
He also categorised the music video's in to three parts which where, narrative and in the music video it has a storyline in it which people can watch, then there is preformance and it shows the artist or someone else singing the song, and finally abstract where the music video has a concept that cant really be figured out easily and doesnt seem to make any sense.
Here are screen grabs from R&B music video's, and in them they usually have the tipical party scene with girls in revealing outfits, and the narrative of the music video's are that they are having a party and it also has preformace part of where the artist is sing the song to the audience.
Then in our music video we also have preformance and narrative but because our genre was pop we had to make sure the narrative related to the song and had a meaning behind it, which is that the girl is being ignored and feels like she is invisible. The narrative also made our music video a bit more interesting so that people wouldn't get bored of just seeing the artist preform in a studio.
