First day of Diwali : Dhanteras

Dhanteras is considered to be auspicious with regard to wealth and prosperity.

Women in the household make it a point to buy articles or ornaments of gold or silver on this day. On the evening of Dhanteras, Tiny clay diyas or lamps are lit in order to ward off evil spirits. Devotional songs called bhajans are sung in praise of the Goddess

What is Diwali about?

Second day of Diwali : Roop chaudas

Diwali is a Hindu equinox "festival of lights" celebrated at the new moon in the month of Kartika, around the time of the autumn harvest and the start of the winter sowing.

This day of Roop Chaudas is dedicated to beautifying and preparing oneself for the special day of Diwali. ‘Roop’ represents beauty and ‘Chaudas’ marks the fourteenth day of the scared month of ‘Kartik’ in the Hindu Lunar Calendar

Third day of Diwali : Deepavali

Where is it originated from?

Deepavali also called Diwail. In this day moon night, the entrances to all homes are lit up and decorated with rangoli patterns to welcome Lakshmi, the radiant consort of Vishnu and the goddess of wealth and lustre. Lakshmi Puja is performed on this day.

The history of Diwali celebrations is nearly as old as the history of India.
