Flexible learning

What is flexible learning?

?

?

?

Incorporate "flexible learning"

into your educational philosophy

and teaching style.

Flexible learning expands choice on what, when, where

and how people learn. It supports different styles of learning, including elearning.

Flexibility means anticipating, and responding to, the ever-changing

needs and expectations of learners and society.

In essence, flexible learning is about greater choice for learners. This includes choices in when, where and how learning occurs. Adopting a flexible learning approach doesn't mean changing everything about your teaching and learning. Many current practices can be part of a flexible approach.

Note: Online, blended, and work-based learning are all EXAMPLES of flexible learning.

Break down tasks and time

Be clear, detailed, & transparent about time & tasks

1 unit = 3 credit points = ~150 hours

or 4 weeks @ ~40 hours/week

or 7 weeks @ ~20 hours/week

or 13 weeks @ ~10 hours/week

or 52 weeks @ ~3 hours/week

or 3 years @ ~ 1 hour/week ...

Hierarchically chunk & organise content

Chunk learning content into portable,

bite-sized pieces.

Hierarchically arrange &

categorise learning content

& learning activities.

Maximise electronic text content - it is very flexible e.g., .txt, .doc, .ppt, .html, wiki.

Digitise info content, curricular

descriptions of learning activities,

asssessment & skill development training.

Develop visualisations, simulations etc. of concepts

Record and archive

as much of your materials,

audio, and video as possible.

The customer is always right

Take students' experiences seriously

Improve/modify accordingly
