I used an editing technique in the beginning of my film to create a more haunting effect. I placed a filter called 'camo' over the footage to create a darker look.
My product uses real conventions of short horror films in ways such as using everyday settings like an ordinary household, with typical people such as man and wife. It also uses minimal editing to create a filtered look at the beginning during the opening scenes in the kitchen as they did in House of Wax.
I got the idea from a real media product called House Of Wax, where they placed a similar filter over the footage to create a similar effect.
My short horror uses camera angles as used in real media products for instance:
Mid shot
Over the shoulder
Lights outs is a short horror that used minimum editing and therefore seems as realistic as possible so will subsequently have a lasting effect on the audience. I tried to recreate this as well by using very little editing to make the film seem more authentic and therefore scary.
POV shot
My short horror film uses conventions of real media products such as jump scares and build ups using creepy music to create suspense as we get to a scary scene. It also follows the typical route of a female being haunted throughout; building up to am eventual death. My horror also ends on a cliff hanger; the camera reveals a masked person to be in bed, the heroine Donna then pulls back the covers and finishes with a scream as the camera goes black and the credits roll; leaving the audience to believe that Donna has been killed.
My short horror has many theories that can be applied to it. The first being that of propps characters- John represents a false hero in the film as he runs into the kitchen to Donnas aid however his presence makes no difference, he also represents the helper and dispatcher as he sends Donna to bed believing its all in her head and that she needs sleep.
Donna represents the heroine as she is the main focus of the story and is trying to save herself and family from whatever is haunting her
My media product also uses Halls representation theory by representing women in the stereotypical manner that they rely upon men to help, such as when Donna calls for Johns aid after the knock on the window. I also represent males in the stereotypical knight in shining armour as John run into the kitchen to restore equilibrium to the situation and calm Donna.
