Conventions of a Digipak.

The front

Conventionally the front of a digipack contains the name of the Artist and the album, an image of the artist or original art

An example of a digipak front cover that follows these conventions is The Circle by Bon Jovi

An example of a digipak that doesn't follow some of these conventions is Blink 182 Greatest hits as although there is orginal art there's no image of the band

The back

Conventions of the digipak back cover are: track listing, a bar code, a background image, copyright information and the logo of the record label for example, universal records.

An example of a back cover that follows the conventions is appetite for destruction by Guns 'N' Roses

A back cover that doesn't follow so me of these conventions is wasting light by Foo Fighters because the image on the back is original art not an image of the band. The colour scheme is also unconventional as it involves more than three colours.

However there often different takes on these conventions for example on the Bon Jovi album Crush the one half of the spine is green the other is leopard skin. I feel the spine of a digipak needs to be attractive as sometimes that's what the buyer sees first

The inside panels

The conventions of a digipak's inside panels are, song information (writers and producers) artist information and on occasion song lyrics, the artist's back catalogue and a dedication. A good example of an album doing this is Nickleback For all the right reasons.

The spine

The conventions of a digipak's spine is to have the names of the artist and album and to have the record label logo. This is the convention nearly all digipaks follow.

An example of an album not following these conventions is Red hot chilli peppers What hits as other than another image there's no information on the inside panels.
