While the poem "Symposium" has no literal meaning, it was written with the intention of proving a point. The point is that when we have problems to solve and we get advice on the matter, the advice we receive is not always helpful and may even leave us more confused than we initially were. This is a recurring theme throughout the movie "Citizen Kane." The reporter at the beginning of the film is given the task of discovering what Rosebud, the last thing Charles Kane said before he died, is and why Kane was thinking of it on his death bed. As the movie progresses, the reporter interviews all of Kanes old friends and colleagues. While these people have stories about Kane that put who he was in better perspective, none of them can say what Rosebud was. The information the reporter gathers leads him further into Kanes life but, at the same time, away from the answers he is looking for.
