OBJECTIVES

BIG ONES

  • To identify the kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom and relevant objects.To use prepositions to describe where the items are in the house.
  • To practice proper intonation, pronunciation and rhythm through songs and chants.
  • To use prepositions to accurately describe an objects location.

BONUS

  • To review colors, numbers, school terms and family members.
  • To be exposed to different culture's houses.

Day One

Welcome Activity: Song, Day, Month, Date, Year, Season, Roll.

Warm up: Show a picture of a house. In each room there is a different family member. Ask students who they see. When they give the appropriate family vocab try to elicit WHERE the family member is. Ask what else is in the room.

Show pictures of rooms with the wrong objects (ex. a desk in the bathroom). Ask students what’s wrong. When they identify the bad object ask what should be there?

Practice: Song

Produce: Students receive a different picture of an object and color it at their table.

Day Two

Welcome Activity: Song, Day, Month, Date, Year, Season, Roll.

Warm up: Review yesterday’s vocabulary: Quickly review the items the students colored yesterday. When the student’s item is named they have to hold up their item.

Ask students in which room they eat, sleep, shower and watch tv? (flashcards)

Practice: Students learn prepositions and practice the preposition song with hand motions

SONG: Students practice the song

Produce: At the table students have to listen to the teacher and draw a circle (mirror) on a worksheet depending on what the teacher says. Also double check which rooms they are in (T: Where is the toilet? Sts: Bathroom T: Put a mirror over the toilet)

Day Three

Warm up: Song with TPR and song with without Show pictures of cats.

Practice: Students receive a bingo sheet and play bingo. When they're done they color the sheet according to rooms (if items are in a bathroom blue, bedroom red, kitchen orange, living room yellow). If the box has more than one room color both colors.

Produce: Students are given a worksheet that states “The bed is behind the trash can” (pictures are also used). They cut out the pictures and post them appropriately.

HOMEWORK: Students are told to go home and find more pictures of the objects we have covered. Fast finishers may be given time (and an IKEA catalog) to do this if they finish quickly. Parents are also written about this in the agenda.

Warm up: Song about kitchen and showing different houses and beds

Practice: Song with TPR and song without. Place common objects students know around the classroom. We have the playing house models as well. Students have to locate the objects when asked, “The pencil is under the bed”

Present: Student’s snacks are hidden around the room. They have to find them (one at a time) when they find them the class asks, Whole class: “Where is your snack?” and they respond, “The snack is under the table” (this can also use the realia from earlier). “In what room?”

Produce: Students play board game where they have to say “The ____ is ____ the ____” the board game will be made using the answers they created on their worksheet the day before. Students enjoy seeing their creations, and it makes it familiar. (My example used is not using their pictures as we haven't gotten this far yet)

Warm up: Both Songs

Review flashcards, also show pictures of different types of beds

Practice: Students are given an envelope, a basket of random items and randomly told to go to a corner. In the envelope they have a picture of a room. They have to 1. Figure out the name of the room and 2. They have to choose one item from the basket that’s from their room and show all 6 prepositions. If any students are SUPER advanced (as in my native English speaker) he will become my assistant and can go around helping students (ONLY using English, if he uses Spanish he has to sit down)

Present: In front of the class students show us the prepositions with their object (each student must be part of at least one preposition). The other students must guess what room they are and correctly say the preposition they are showing us.

HOMEWORK: Remind students they MUST have the cut outs of the objects next class. Give time if they finish finding them early.

Day Six

Warm up: Both Songs

Evaluation

Students are given the “house” paper and told to color the back of the paper brown.

They color the printed side according to directions (color the bathroom red, etc)

They have to listen to instructions and fold the paper accordingly to create a box

Students have to place the ____ in the kitchen, ____ above the _____. These get put on the wall in class so students should have pride in their work.
