We used different setting to add to our representation of different social groups. Firstly there is an establishing shot of a estate block to represent the less privileged character. We see two characters sitting on the stairs of an estate reflecting the situation of the social group.

How Does Your Media Product represent particular social groups?

The different social groups that you should expect to see would be firstly a less priviliged urban youth.

Representations re the ways in which the media portrays particular groups, communities, experiences, ideas, or topics from a particular ideological or value perspective.

In similar Title Sequences

In similar title sequences to ours for example 8 Mile, character's challenge different stereotypes. For example the main character Eminem, chooses to chase his rapping dream, however he is challenging the stereotype of a white male rapping which in not common and virtually rare in the urban community.

However some stereotypes are followed in this film as the black males choose to create trouble and commit crimes hence conforming to the stereotype.

There is also a montage of images posted in the blog along with this presentation to show different images of the social representation.

We decided to represent certain social groups through the use of costumes and mise en scene.

The teen who represents the less privileged urban youth. We tried to represent this by dressing the character in a relaxed manner (greytrack suit) this is effective as it make him look less privileged and more like an urban/hood character.

The character in the tracksuit is represented positively as he challenges the stereotype of an urban youth wearing a hoodie, instead of getting up to trouble, in the film we see that he is focused on achieving his dream of making it in the music industry with the help of his freind's financial abilities.

Another social group represented is through our other main character who is a priviliged city youth.

The character below, represents

the priviliged youth social group. He is in a fully refurbished hi tech studio and is wearing a very expensive gold watch which we used to indicate the difference in social groups between him and the other character.

The character who is more privileged is also represented positively as he is not stereotypically selfish and decides to help his friend out who is less financially able. He also challenges certain stereotypes as he is a black male but choses to work hard to make his money and not to engage in criminal activity such as selling drugs.
