Keeps me up to date with new technologies and trends
One of my main sources for new developments in open access, publishing, library technology, etc. The most up-to-date method around. And I pass on news learned from these methods to colleagues and user groups.
I learn new things on a daily basis from the people I follow.
Impact on the way you work
I use twitter almost as an RSS feed now. It makes sure I'm at least aware of the major issues being discussed. I keep Twitter open most of the day and often ask questions of my network to assist me in finding information, providing recommendations or solving problems.
- Influences and guides my reading - more likely to follow up references tweeted by PLN. 'Work' and learning happen everywhere - esp on the train. My work and work issues are more public and get solved much more quickly.
- I may discover things in the middle of the night and the ideas start pouring out.
- Twitter is now my primary means of keeping up to date with the library profession!
- Always have had twitter open, but was told off by boss for doing so
