Peace and love Friends!!

Relaxation is King

How many times have you felt like you need to bounce off the walls and had nothing to do to help you settle down. Welcome to my world. Before bed I sit down with a crochet project and focus on my breathing and counting stitches. I can feel the tension in my muscles and mind melting away. Crochet and knitting is like my Camomile tea. I find myself breathing slower and my eyes getting heavier. I find it much easier to sleep after a few rows of my current project. Crochet and Knitting is an amazing healer of the body and mind.

Self Esteem Builder

Looking at a pattern that seems impossible to figure out is very daunting. I collect patterns like others collect figurines or cars. When I figure out a new crochet or knit stitch I get so excited and it really boosts my confidence. and when someone appreciates my hard work it makes me sore even higher.

its helped me reduce social anxiety

Impact of Crochet for Prison Inmates

I have been prone to panic attacks when interacting with people I don't know. They can range from internal attacks to full blown external attacks where I've had to disengage and return home. I take a small crochet project with me everywhere so when I begin to feel anxiety I take out my project and start to work on it. I breath deeply and count along with my stitches as I go. It has broken barriers with strangers because they become curious about my work and engage me in meaningful conversation. Its a great ice breaker.

Relieving my Depression

Its all about the repetition. Patterns make me happy. Counting stitches as I work my yarn eases my mind and gives me focus on my project, thus I forget about what was affecting me negatively. A published study in the British Journal of Occupational Therapy, 81% of knitters reported feeling happy after knitting and some even said they felt VERY happy.

How Crochet and Knitting can help you fight Depression and Anxiety

I have been an advocate for mental health since I was diagnosed a very long time ago with depression, A.D.D., and anxiety. I struggled to find relief that medication and therapy could not give me. I turned to Crochet and Knitting and the changes have been brilliant.
