Most of the sound in

the movie was non-diegetic

except for the dialogue in it.

The dialogue in the film

had to be filmed twice in

order to successfully achieve

the 180 degree rule.

Storyboards were made to help

visualise the whole idea of the story.

Planning then began too as we had to

make schedules for when the shoots

would take place and the props that

we would need for each one.

The soundtrack was created using Garage Band. We tested out many different sounds before we made any decisions on putting the track together.

The Shoots then began and we got

all of the necessary filming completed

in 3 weeks.

We included shots such as close-ups

and two shots which helped to show

the relationships between the characters.

The editing and constructing of

the film took place in Final Cut

Express. As we hadn't used the programme before, it was difficult at first but we soon mastered how to work it in order to make the movie look its best.

We decided on the location for

our movie: it was going to be

based in the local children's park

and a group members house.

We watched movies such as

Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest"

to find basic thriller conventions. Some

of these that we found was Tzvetan Todorov's

theory of equilibrium and Roland Barthes' theory

of action and enigma codes which cause the

audience to ask questions, raising tension

and suspense.

When showing our peers our film, the feedback that we got was that there was too much dialogue which took away from creating suspense.

So as a result, we had to re-film in order to create a more suspenseful atmosphere.

We had to look at thriller theories in order to broaden our knowledge and understanding.

Evaluation of Mirror Image

In order to choose what

type of thriller it was going

to be, we carried out a questionnaire

on 30 people who fit our target audience.

We found out that the majority of people

preferred psychological thrillers so chose that

to be our sub-genre.

The aim of this project was to produce an original two minute thriller film opening by preparing, shooting and editing it whilst also producing a new soundtrack to accompany it for a specific target audience.

Originally the lead role was meant to be a greiving father but when looking back at the footage, it was clear to see that the actor playing the part was female so we changed the character's gender. We also felt that this would go against the stereotypes of stalkers being men.

using all the information that

we had gathered through the questionnaires, we felt it was time to sit

down as a group and brainstorm ideas

for the movie.

Initially we came up with the

title 06.06.06 however when

presenting this to our peers, they

thought that the movie was going to be

about the devil and felt that the title was

misleading so we had to rethink our ideas.

Two experts from the film industry

came in to view our movies and the

feedback that we got from them was that

the concept was original and the technical work was good for it being our first time. The advice they gave to us was to edit out some of the soundtrack as the changes it in took away from the tense atmosphere.

The final idea that we came up with

was the idea of an obsessive Father greiving the

loss of his daughter who finds a girl who looks

identical to his daughter and he then goes out to

stalk her.

We wanted to make sure that

we gave the audience exactly what

they wanted so got them involved with

much of the decision making.

We carried out another questionnaire

to help us choose what our title was

going to be.
