Extended

It has been so hard for me to stay motivated going into my fifth year of college. This course will not just stop on June 12th for me. I will be able to use what I learned about motivation and apply it for next school year. This will help to keep me going.

I will also use the information about drug addiction to better understand the people in my life that I care about.

My Favorite Part

Jennifer Thomas

  • My favorite part of this course was learning about addiction. Psychoactive drugs have been a part of my extended family life since I can remember, so learning more about them was something interesting for me. My sister-in-law used to be an addict and now she is still addicted, but instead of being addicted to her drug of choice, she is addicted to cigarettes and caffeine. I did not see her in withdraw, but I know when she does not have her coffee or soda, her mood drastically changes and she becomes tired and complains of a headache. I do not think she will ever quit smoking but at the same time, I am living with her and from reading the symptoms of withdraw, it would be a hard thing for everyone to deal with.
  • As far as genetics to addiction, alcoholism runs in my family as well as smoking, however, I did not have it in my immediate family so I was never around it. My niece is three years old and she is around it all the time. For my birthday, she gave me an imaginary pack of cigarettes. This makes me think she will grow up smoking.

  • There is a lot more I could say about addiction, but I am running out of room. I just find everything interesting, from the initiation, to the theories to relapses.

Overview

  • There are three different kinds of motivators: biological, psychological, and environmental. Biological motivation is internal to you. Under biological motivation, we learned about evolution, addiction, thirst, hunger, and eating, behavior and stress: all internal. Psychological motivation is external to you, Such as your drives and needs as well as your personality. Environmental is your goals or incentives. We talked about goals and motivations as well as mood and emotion.
