When researching music magazines, I narrowed down my

favourite type of music and magazines to be within the pop music genre. Consequently, another reason being the genre as

a whole is very popular within this modern day. For example: "Rockabye" by Clean Bandit broke one of the highest records for longest No.1 in the UK's top 40 hits. With this, the music video (to this date: 9th of January 2017) has 163'957'699 views on YouTube therefore clear evidence of a popular genre. Traditionally, in a Pop genre magazine, it consisted of: colour, giveaways, articles etc. Which is everything I look for when buying a magazine and the fact I enjoy the music from this particular genre is beneficial therefore it would be enjoyable to focus on this genre. They often come with a fun, exciting front cover and story therefore I would want to recreate this in my magazine.

INTERVIEW

Thought Process behind constructing the magazine

I have chosen to present my cover story with an interview with the upcoming artist, consisting of gossip that no other magazine would of heard therefore an exclusive. It will include sharing her story about what has happened, what it is like to be working alongside such a big star, what she is about etc. allowing her to introduce herself as an artist. Background information and her feelings will be shown throughout allowing every aspect of her life to be shown through one article - giving as much information as possible yet to continue to be engaging. It also offers a unique upcoming artist due to how she was recognized - it was not through reality TV like recent explosion of artistes but she started her dream herself allowing the gratification of inspiration and motivation to be seeked through this media text.

ARTIST

EMILE SWANLEY

I decided to base my cover story on an interview on upcoming phenomenon Emile Swanley - a 17 year old girl with an incredible voice whom was head hunted via YouTube by the pop sensation Justin Bieber. The young girl was opening Bieber's concert in London, 02 when her record deal with Scooter (the same as Justin's) was announced. She is continuing to open for the rest of the tour. I chose her due to her unique look of beauty is a clear face for the genre therefore fitting perfectly. Justin is also a huge representative for this genre so using star appeal for the demographic - he has a wide social media following (91 million followers on Twitter) and has had an amazing 4 UK number 1s with a total number of 18 weeks within the 1st position, 101 weeks in the top 10 tracks and 496 weeks in the top 75 so can guarantee good results with his expertise. Also, the story behind her is interesting and unique itself therefore meaning it would be fitting for the magazine too due to the name being "Quirk" which withholds these same connotations.
