Question:

The wavelength of yellow sodium light in air is 589nm. What is it's frequency? What is it's wavelength in glass whose index of refraction is 1.52? And what is the speed in glass?

Constructive and Destructive Interference

The light reflected creates destructive interference and makes it nearly impossible to see through the film. While looking cool it provides protection from UV rays and makes it easier to see for the wearer on super sunny days and extremely dull ones too.

answer:

a) f=c/wavelength

(3.0x10^8m/s)/(589nm) = 5.09x10^14Hz

b)wavelength of (n)=wavelength/n

(589nm)/(1.52) = 387.5nm

c) v=(wavelength)(frequency)

(5.09x10^14Hz)(387.5x10^-9m) = 1.97x10^8m/s

by Declan Kelly

Some of the light is reflected back while the rest is transmitted through at easier more warm wavelengths making the pilots job's easier and safer.

Thin Film Interference

-is the reason we perceive many vibrant colours in a soap bubble

-important in quality optics and in energy saving-technologies for windows

-reflected and transmitted light is dependent on thickness of the film and any phase changes that occur during reflection at the surfaces of the film.
