Mise En Scene
When watching the video pretty much all of the camera shots are used throughout, giving the audience a wide range of shots and views on her which link in with the fast paced editing to really capture their attention and to hook them. In certain shots you can see parts are out of focus and focus pulls are used which has the effect of making the audience focus on it even more. The background is changed by the use of a green screen sort of technology that allows the background to be changed and animated, by moving etc. also allowing the colours and patterns of the background to match and go with the costumes that are used throughout. If you watch the video again and look out for this, you will be able to identify these aspects.
Location
The location of this video is set within a studio
as the location of the piece doesn’t actually
change; the background and costume does.
Costume
Editing
There is a wide variety of costumes throughout this music video, all of which are edgy and stylish. By dressing her the way they have it allows her fan base to be able to recognise her as she has adapted this unique style and it is what she is known to wear and is known for. Each, individual costume is bold whether it is its style or the colours that are used.
The continuous fast paced cutting that is used throughout successfully goes with the beat of the song and really helps to enforce and create a fun, dance-y atmosphere that produces a happy effect on the listeners and viewers. Also, at certain moments within the video you see cross fades used where 3 different shots are layered over the top of one another to almost build up an energetic atmosphere. Here is an example of both:
Lighting
The lighting on Jessie doesn’t change in the video, so what the directors and team working on the video have done is use vibrant colours on the background and costumes to make up for not using any coloured lighting and to still create a fun and energetic atmosphere. A spotlight is used in some of the shots so it clearly highlights her, making the audience focus on her exactly and it makes the background more visible. Here is a good example where it is seen within the video:
