The Charlottetown Conference was originally planned as a meeting between representatives from the Maritime colonies only: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.

The American civil war was started because the North wanted to abolish slavery while the south wanted to keep slaves to work on their farms. Abraham Lincoln united the north and the south and got rid of slavery. This meant that slaves no longer had to use the underground railway to get to Canada.

In 1869 the Hudson's bay company surrendered most of their land to the new dominion of Canada. This caused the amount of fur in the fur trade business to slow down but not fully stop as well as this caused Canada to gain more land.

In 1870 the provinces of manitoba and the northwest territories decided to join the confederation of canada. Thus expanded the country of Canada. This increased the population as well as the goods that could be produced.

1844 The Capital Of Canada

The province of Canada was formed in the new world by the colonies of Upper Canada and Lower Canada. In 1844 the capital of the province of Canada was moved from Kingston in Canada West to Montreal in Canada East.
