2014 AP Lit

Exam

You sit down and rip off the

plastic on your 2014 AP answer

booklet and your free response questions.

Prompt: (from 1976) The conflict created when the will of an individual opposes the will of

the majority is the recurring theme of many novels, plays, and essays.

Select the work of an essayist who is in opposition to his or her society;

or, from a work of recognized literary merit, select a fictional

character who is in opposition to his or her society. In a critical

essay analyze the conflict and discuss the moral and ethical implications

for both the individual and the society. Do not summarize the plot or

action of the work you choose.

Remember: Emphasis on Theme and Literary Devices. You may be an expert on the play but if you can't back it up in a way that the AP Readers are looking for, you will not get points.

"Throughout the play the quote 'foul is fair and fair is foul' has a meaning. This is the theme to play because of how twisted everything is. The prophecy set all the action into motion and plays off of the theme of discrepancy between appearance and reality.
