DETERMINATION OF THE DIURETIC PROPERTY FROM MUSSAENDA ‘DONYA LUZ’ (Mussaenda philippica var. donya luz, Fam. Rubiaceae) FLOWERS EXTRACT
Based on the findings of the study, the researchers recommend the following:
- To conduct other biological test to determine the other medicinal uses of the plant.
- To isolate other constituents present in the plant to perform for other biological test.
- To be able to exert diuretic activity or a larger amount of constituent is needed to produce a diuresis (larger than the amount of constituent preset in the crude extract used).
- To use other parts of the plant such as the roots and the stem in determining a diuretic property.
Interpretation
The results obtained in this study showed that the Phytochemical screening of the petals of Mussaenda (Mussaenda philippica var. ‘donya luz’) flowers contained saponins, flavonoids, tannins, carbohydrates and resins. The crude extract that was tested for diuretic activity was found to possess a potential diuretic activity which could be further explored in the treatment of hypertension.
