Entering the room

When you enter the room, my expectation is that you are silent and being the "Do Now" . We have no time to waste, so we must arrive on time, get right to work, and stay focused! I care so deeply about seeing each of you succeed - We will make your brain bigger better faster stronger! All "Do Now" sheets will be handed to you upon entering, OR will be located by the sink!

Passing in Papers

DIRECTIONS

President's message to you

The purple homework bin that says "homework" is where all classwork will go. When we pass in papers, the back rows will first pass their papers to the person sitting on their RIGHT. This person will then pass the papers forward until all papers arrive at desk #1. We do this silently and respectfully.

Use your classroom procedures chart to record the information!

A Time and a Place

Knowing when it's an appropriate time...

Community Circles

In this classroom, we are all responsible for

supporting each other's success. Sometimes,

our peers need our help to get back on the right track. In this classroom, we support each other by giving helpful feedback in a "Community Circle". In these circles, classroom leaders will choose 3 peers who they think will provide the most helpful, kind advice to their peer. Each time the circle begins, we will say the rules of the circle together. If a student continues down a negative path after the circle is closed, the student will be sent to another classroom to write a reflective 5 paragraph essay and will call home. We are here to help each other, and receive help when needed.

WHEN FINISHED

What are we doing today?

Our Content Language Objectives will outline our goals of the day and will be presented on the board. We will go over them at the beginning of the class, and will check in periodically throughout the class to see if we have met our goals for the day. Here is an example Content Language Objective that you will see:

There is a time and a place for specific questions and comments. Please keep all questions and comments relevant to the material we are covering so that we can stay on task and cover what we need to cover. Your job right now is to be a student, and we have LOTS to learn, so we need to stay focused and stay on top of our goals every day. If you do have a question, please SILENTLY raise your hand. Calling out my name is never the right way to signal that you are in need of attention.

Being a Leader

Classroom leaders ensure that their peers are on task reminding them of expectations in a positive

way. When greeters enter the room, they offer them water, a chair, and explain our Content Language Objectives to the visitors and our goals for the day, as well as the unit we are working on. Classroom leaders will receive special "Leader Gatherings" with food and movies during lunch, positive phone calls home, and other special surprises throughout the year. If a leader gets in trouble in school (any class, recess, gym, etc) or is disrespectful in any way, they will lose leadership status.

Leaders

In this class, each student has the ability to become a classroom "leader" . These are students who show not only all of the Bridge Behaviors, but who have a high amount of points and have shown maturity, motivation, and kindness to all students. Classroom leaders are in charge of helping other students and greeting classroom visitors.

STANDARDS RETEACH GROUPS

Students who are not meeting their

goals in specific standards areas will

be assigned extra practice work during

lunch in order to reach mastery.

Tracking our Standards

Each student in this room is responsible for maintaining their interactive student notebook. You will receive specific instruction on how this notebook should be put together. You are responsible for following the directions and keeping your notebook up to date. You will receive a standards checklist as well as an "I CAN" Common Core sheet. When have mastered a standard, I will check the box next to the standard you have mastered on THIS SHEET ONLY:

YOU are responsible for adding the date in the boxes next to the standards EACH DAY.

The standards and dates will ALWAYS be on the board for you!

ACTION!

Example videos

When we are ready to transition, we must be quick and careful! When you are given instructions, you are expected to follow directions THE FIRST TIME. NO EXCEPTIONS. Before you move into your transition (moving desks, grabbing materials, getting in groups...) I will say "Get It?" then you say "GOT IT!" And I will say, "Good. GO!" You then have a certain amount of time (I will tell you) to get the transition done.

Tracking our Behavior

Now that we've discussed 6th grade behavior, it is important that we discuss exactly how we will be tracking our choices (positive and negative) in class, and how that data will be used. We will be using a system called Class Dojo. You will be assigned an Avatar (which you will be able to change with a student password), and your parents will be given a password as well to see how you have been doing in class. This information will be used in Parent Teacher Conferences, and in our "Dojo Wars". Whenever 100% of the class is doing the right thing and is on task, we get a class point. Every 100 points, you will receive a "Waffle Buck", with which you can buy pencils, candy, and other things. At the end of the year, the student with the highest positive points wins a special prize, and the class with the highest positive points wins a party!

Past Projects

Going to No-Talk

If I need to get your attention for any reason, I will say "If you can hear me, clap once", "if you can hear me, clap twice". OR, " I need you quiet in 3...2...1". This is extremely important. I may need your attention for anything from directions to an emergency, so it is EXTREMELY important that you follow directions the first time. Failure to follow directions will result in lunch detention.

Passing Period

Passing period is a five minute period

between classes to go to the bathroom,

go to your locker, and get whatever you

need for the next class (pencil, etc. There is no

excuse for coming to class unprepared.

You may not leave class once it has

started unless it is an ABSOLUTE

EMERGENCY. No excuses, no exceptions.

100%

6th grade expectations

Sad Day

This is YOUR education, YOUR opportunity, and YOUR chance to change the world! We need to support each other, help each other, and succeed as a team! I do not tolerate rudeness, talking back, dishonesty, disrespect, or any type of bad behavior. You WILL rise to the expectations and you WILL succeed. There are no excuses. You are too important to let yourself fail. Be confident. Be honest. Be kind. Be successful.

Every student must follow directions! This is important! Every time I see 100% of our class following instructions, I will give you a point on the board! When you reach 10 points, you will receive a "Waffbuck". With these, you can buy candy, pencils, glow sticks, and other fun things! Also, we will be using Class Dojo to track your behavior in class. These scores will be shared with parents via e-mail and at parent teacher conferences. At the end of the year, the highest scoring students will win a prize.

Tracking

Whenever anybody is speaking, your eyes need to be on them. If you need to turn around, please do so. You all deserve respect, and you have to give it to your peers to receive it! Treat others as you would want to be treated!

If you choose not to follow the directions, the consequences are:

1) First warning - I write your name down in the behavior log

2) Second warning - Let's talk after class to discuss how we can fix this problem

3) Third warning - We will call home and talk after class with a refocus slip

4) Fourth warning - conference with parents/ sent out of class, student dean involvement

* Lunch detention may be assigned for violation of any of the BRIDGE behaviors, as well as academic dishonesty, tardiness, unpreparedness, and any form of disrespect towards peers or adults. Lunch detention requires a written essay which will be

added to your personal file, and recorded

online.
