*According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health illicit drug use in the United States has risen to its highest level in eight years.

*According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, nearly 2.1 million hospital Emergency Department visits in 2012 were the result of drug abuse.

* The cost of substance abuse to American society was an estimated $181 billion. Of this, an overwhelming $107 billion was associated with drug-related crime.

Drug is defined as a chemical substance that brings physical,emotional, or behavioral changes in a person taking it.

Drugs contain chemicals that tap into the brain’s communication system and disrupt the way nerve cells normally send, receive, and process information.

Thanks to medical and drug research, there are hundreds of drugs that help people. For example antibiotics and vaccines . Medicines can cure, slow, or prevent disease, helping us to lead healthier and happier lives. But there are also lots of illegal, harmful drugs that people take to help them feel good or have a good time.
