Step 5

Step 3

Step 1

Monitoring Student Progress

-Elicits direct, observable evidence of student learning

-Formative assessments are embedded throughout instruction

-Provides multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery

Accounts for the Key Shifts in the Standards

Review Materials

  • Focus
  • Coherence
  • Rigor
  • Review the rubric and record the grade and title of the lesson or unit on the response form.

  • Scan to see what the lesson or unit contains, what practices, and concepts are targeted, and how it is organized.

  • Read key materials related to instruction, assessment, and teacher guidance.

Reference Materials

The first step in the review process is to become familiar with the lesson or unit, the practices targeted in the lesson or unit, and the Colorado Academic Standards for Mathematics.

Step 2

Check alignment to the Standards

A lesson is defined as: a coherent set of instructional activities and assessments aligned to the CAS that may extend over a few to several class periods or days and a unit is defined as: coherent set of lessons aligned to the CAS that extend over a longer period of time.

Look for the big ideas presented in the Grade Level Expectations (GLEs), the Evidence Outcomes (E.O.s), and the Nature of Mathematics

Step 4

Instructional Supports

Do they:

-Engage students in authentic and meaningful scenarios

-Develop deeper understanding by building on prior knowledge

-Provide guidance on differentiation

-Use accurate and grade-appropriate scientific information

-Provide opportunities for students to express themselves
