[Background to Russian Revolution:

the Bolsheviks took control of the government in October 1917. The beginnings of Constructivism.]

[ Political activist like Gan proclaimed: "death to art," but not all artist agreed with him. Many saw art as changing from being nonobjective, 'art for art's sake,' to being utilitarian and purposeful. ]

[When it came it creating Constructivist pieces,

artists usually agreed about what it should look like. Geometric shapes and lines. Organic truth.

And elimination of excess.]

[Art in production was extremely important to Constructivist artists. In theory factories would allow them to mass produce the items they were making. However, in many cases this art was never actually mass produced in Russian factories.]

[Artists also debated whether or not the art was for the State or for the Proletariat. This can be seen in advertising posters: many produced by the State to meet the needs of the State; yet they were advertising to the Proletariat.]

[Conclusions: Were the Constructivist artists able to meet the goals that they had set for themselves? Purpose of art. Artistic Tenets. Art in production. Art for State or Proletariat.]
