Throughout my magazine I have tried to follow the codes and conventions. In my magazine front cover I have included a main central image that creates eye contact with the audience. The image is a medium close up, and has connotations relating to school as the image is a student wearing Weatherheads uniform. The mese en scene of the image is a geography poster, which again implies a schools atmosphere. Following the codes and conventions my magazine includes a seasonal date that the magazine was issued, for example ‘Spring 2010’ and situated below that is any contact information which in this case in the school website. Further into the codes and conventions of a magazine I made sure the main storyline matches the main image, to make the main storyline stand out I have tilted it and made it bold and clear to see. To the right of my magazine front cover I have listed 4 stories that are going to be included in my magazine, this relates to the codes and conventions ‘3-7 cover lines’. In my magazine I have placed the barcode in the right bottom hand corner as when I researched magazines, if found that all barcodes were situated here. In my contents page I have also followed the codes and conventions by putting all pages and stories in columns. I have made sure I’ve used 3 columns to organise my pages. Were I have put pictures; I have placed a page number that relates to that specific picture. Included in my contents page is the title of the magazine situated at the top, to keep to the codes and conventions I have stuck to a set colour pallet and made sure it was relevant to my target audience. When I was setting my pages into columns i placed subheading at the top to separate the pages from each other. I made sure the subheadings were in bold and clear for the audience to read. For contact details on my contents page I have included the schools website under the positioning statement.

When making my magazine I used a range of media equipment varying from SLR cameras which I found quite hard as I had no experience with them specific cameras. I used this camera to capture my main central image, along with that camera I used a plain digital camera to just capture any images that I am placing inside my magazine. When making my front cover I used Adobe Photoshop, I enjoyed using this programme as I am very comfortable with it due to having recent experience in the lower school. The only problem I found difficult was finding a star shape to place on my front cover, with the help from my peers I was able to complete this task successfully. For my contents page I used ‘Quark’ this was a completely new programme that I have never used before so it took a while getting used to it. With Quark I liked the fact you could place gridlines on your page to make sure you were sticking to a content page layout, this helped me a lot.

The strengths of my magazine front cover are that it sticks to the codes and conventions and I haven’t tried to be different in any way. It follows a sensible, relevant colour scheme and looks professional. When making the products, both contents page and front cover i found the media technology hard to work with as i hadnt used the SLR cameras before. A strength using the media technology is that i has peer support and help from my teachers.
